Buying from Instagram and WhatsApp shops is normal in Nigeria — and so are scams. Paying to a personal account before you see the goods is the most common way buyers lose money.
Escrow flips the risk: you pay into a protected hold, not straight to the seller. The seller only gets paid after delivery is confirmed.
Red flags before you pay
- Seller only accepts bank transfer to a personal NUBAN with no receipt trail.
- Pressure to “pay now or I sell to someone else” with no written order.
- No delivery plan, no tracking, and no way to dispute.
A legitimate seller who uses Prefrpay will send you a Prefrpay pay link. That link shows what you’re buying and that funds are held until delivery.
What happens when you pay with Prefrpay
- You open the pay link and complete checkout.
- Your payment is secured in escrow (not sitting in the seller’s pocket).
- The seller arranges delivery.
- You confirm delivery (doorstep PIN or courier flow, depending on the order).
- Only then does the seller receive the funds.
If something goes wrong, eligible orders can enter Prefrpay’s dispute path — far better than arguing in DMs after a blind transfer.
Finding safer sellers
Prefer sellers listed on Find 2 Buy: verified, WhatsApp-linked shops browsable by state and category. From a seller’s trust page you can start a secure order so they get a clear offer before you pay.
